THE love for beer saw a Mutare man stab a bar tender because he had closed the bar early. Emmanuel Chingore (37) of House Number 319, McGregor’s, Sakubva, appeared before senior Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura and pleaded guilty to stabbing Joe Dube (39) of Room 15 Chimoio Flats with a knife.

The court heard that on September 7 at 10.30pm, Dube, who works as a bar tender at Gwinyai Bar in Sakubva, ordered people to leave the bar because he wanted to close for the day.

This did not go down well with Chingore who wanted more beer. The court heard that he drew out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Dube on the fore finger.

Dube sustained a deep cut on the finger and reported the matter to the police leading to Chingore’s arrest.
In his defence, Chingore said he did not use a knife but a broken bottle.

“I did not use a knife, Your Worship, but a broken bottle I had found in the bar. I know what I did was unlawful,” said Chingore.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $150 before September 30.
