Baroka to set camp in Zimbabwe

SOUTH African Premiership side Baroka FC a�� new boys in the elite Mzansi league a�� will hold a week-long training camp in Bulawayo in preparation for the 2016 /17 season.

Baroka, home to former Highlanders striker Cleopas Dube and compatriot Marshall Munetsi, gained promotion into the South African Premier Soccer League in May.

The ambitious Limpopo Province club is owned by businessman Khurishi Mphahlele who has pulled all stops in boosting the team ahead of the rigorous elite league season that kicks off later in August.

Club chief executive officer Morgan Mamilla said the club will be in Bulawayo on 6 August.

a�?We will be in Zimbabwe from 6 August to play about three friendly matches against top clubs in Bulawayo. We are still in consultation with the Bulawayo clubs we wish to play against and Ia��ll have the names as soon as the clubs grant our requests,a�? Mamilla told B-Metro Sport from South Africa.

While still playing in South African lower division Baroka FC and the club coach Sello Chokoe short to fame after humiliating football giants Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals in 2011.

Last year the team lost 2-0 to Supersport United in the semi- finals of the same competition.

It remains to be seen which local teams the South African side will engage for the training camp but one thing for sure is that the club has three foreign spots to fill, a situation that presents Zimbabwean players with a chance to impress Chokoe and his technical team. .
