Battle of miners called off

THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match between Manica Diamonds and FC Platinum that was penciled for Sakubva on Saturday has been postponed as the grieving Zvishavane side mourn the passing on of their captain Brian Banda.

Banda died on the spot in a road traffic accident along the Zvishavane-Bulawayo Highway in the early hours of Sunday.

The revised schedule of this weekend’s fixtures released by the PSL this afternoon confirmed that the clash between the diamond and platinum miners has been called off.

The rest of the matches are going ahead as scheduled.

The pick of the crop in the fixtures is Sunday’s game between ambitious debutants Scottland and fading giants CAPS United.

Keen interest will also be on relegation-threatened Dynamos who face city rivals Herentals Colleges on Sunday.

Highlanders will be out to salvage their faltering campaign when they travel to Kwekwe United on Sunday.

League pacesetters MWOS host unpredictable Bikita Minerals, while defending champions Simba Bhora are at home to ZPC Kariba.
