Battle over control of Umzingwane intensifies

Ms Khumalo, who has defected from Professor Welshman Ncube and declared her allegiance to his rival Prof Arthur Mutambara’s faction, is the Member of the House of Assembly for the area.
MDC organising secretary, Mr Qhubani Moyo yesterday confirmed the restructuring exercise.
He also announced that his party had identified Ngqabutho Dube as the new candidate who would represent them in the next election.

In a direct attack on Ms Khumalo, Mr Moyo said the restructuring exercise was meant to exorcise the “evil spirit” brought by the MP. “In line with our preparedness for elections, we strive to ensure that we weed out all the evil spirits left by MaKhumalo and in constituencies where MPs sold out,” said Mr Moyo.
“We are already looking for a new candidate and Mr Dube is our favourite. Ms Khumalo is no longer a headache for us and we have resolved to take her to where she belongs and that is the dust bin.”

Mr Moyo said the restructuring exercise had been completed in all the 19 wards.
“In the last 45 days, we sent three teams led by our secretary for mobilisation, Mr Masotsha Ndlovu, national executive member, Mr Dube and the secretary for recruitment, Ms Rita Ndlovu.
“Today our party president Prof Ncube and other senior officials will be going there for the induction of the new executive,” he said.

Ms Khumalo could not be drawn to comment saying she was in a noisy place. “I will call you back later. Where I am it is very noisy,” she said before cutting the phone.
The MDC has been embroiled in a circus                     after its congress early this year, which saw the then party president Prof Mutambara, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister in the inclusive Government, later changing his mind and disputing the outcome of the congress.

DPM Mutambara broke away from the party with a handful of supporters with Ms Khumalo recently declaring that she did not belong to the Prof Ncube faction.
The fight between Prof Mutambraa and Prof Ncube spilled into the courts and Bulawayo High Court judge, Justice Lawrence Kamocha ruled in favour of Prof Ncube and barred Prof Mutambara from masquerading as MDC president.

However, Prof Mutambara has since appealed to the Supreme Court.
