Battlefields teenager to perform community service for assault

A 19-year-old man from Battlefields, Kadoma will spend the next 354 hours perfoming community service after assaulting a man whom he accused of stealing his gold ore.
Regai Zande appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges.

He was sentenced to 14 months in prison of which four months were suspended for 5 years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that the he performs 354 hours of community service.

On October 8, 2024 at around 7:30 pm the complainant (31) was on his way home when he met Zande who started accusing him of stealing his gold ore some time back.

The complainant denied the allegations and this resulted in a misunderstanding.

Zande then picked an unknown object and struck the complainant once on the head.

The complainant sustained a cut on the head.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has encouraged members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
