AS the preparations for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games intensify, coach Mildred Baye says she is pleased with the progress the athletes were making.
The team, made up of two athletes Pamela Shumba and Vimbai Zvinowanda, got into camp on Monday, in Harare.
They are training at the National Sports Stadium B Arena, under the guidance of Baye, as the Games, scheduled for August 24 to September 5, get closer.
Shumba and Zvinowanda are expected to represent the country in athletics, in Japan, after posting qualifying times in February, in Dubai.
“I think we are okay, I must say we are good because we are doing our training as scheduled.
‘’The preparations are going on well.
“The girls are training because they really want to come back home with something.
‘’They are trying their best and they have been training all along, in their provinces, since we came from Dubai
“There is a lot of change, and progress, in terms of their strength and endurance, which is a really big development,” said Baye.
Shumba and Zvinowanda are expected to compete in the 200m T47 and 200m T12 respectively.
“Since they were training, it’s just a combination of what they have been doing, and what we are working on, now.
‘’The way they were performing, when they were preparing for Dubai, is totally different from the way they are training now, even their fitness, it has actually improved.
“They had one competition which was hosted by NAAZ in Bulawayo.
“We are working on everything, fitness, endurance, strength and confidence and a lot of things
‘’I am just touching on everything because we want to be at our best,” said Baye.
