ALL is set for a fundraising basketball tournament to be held tomorrow (Saturday) at Ralyton Sports Club in Mutare.
The event is scheduled to commence at 8am and was organised by Praise Worship and Prayer (PWP) Ministries and Mutare Summer Fest committee led by Anne Ruthernburg.
It is meant to raise money for a number of orphanage homes and street children in and around Mutare.
According to the organising team, the event will be an annual one.
It is open to any team in and around the city.
In an interview with one of the organisers, Bruce Muzawazi, appealed to Mutare residents to come in their numbers to support and raise funds for the less privileged members of the society. “I am appealing to all Mutare citizens to come and support the tournament and raise funds for our fellow brothers and sisters. This is an open tournament to anyone who feels like he has the potential to play. We are all welcome. This event shall be held annually starting from this year,” said Muzawazi.
Mutare Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said the event would also enable people to display hidden talents in them besides playing for fun and fundraising.
“The ability to play this type of a sport has nothing to do with age. It is indeed an open opportunity for all those who feel they can play and display what is hidden within them. The event shall enable us to identify talented youngsters for our provincial team as the MBA.
“All male teams will pay an affiliation fee of $20 to participate, while ladies teams will be playing for free. Non players will pay an entry fee of $1 to enter and enjoy the games.“There will be a number of prizes to be won which are $100, $75 and $50 for first, second and third positions in the males category. Ladies winners will walk away with shields,” said Dhliwayo.
