NEWLY-promoted ZIFA Manicaland Division one outfit, The Africa Trust, has commenced preparations for the forthcoming soccer season by playing a series of friendly matches as well as beefing up their squad.
The Watsomba-based outfit came out tops in the Division Two League ahead of stubborn contenders such as Redwing Mine and Midway who fought tirelessly to clinch the coveted prize before they faltered in the last matches.
In an interview, TAT committee member, Leonard Jombe, said they know pretty well that Division One soccer was not a stroll in the park and were taking preparations seriously.
As part of their preparations, the team has so far played friendly matches against Sisal, Marondera Select as well as Redwing Mine.
“We know that the coming season will need the best of us. It won’t be easy. However, we will be aiming to prove our worthy and give each opponent a good run of their money.
The boys are training hard and they are determined to make a mark. We have so far played exciting teams such as Sisal and Marondera Select and we were happy with both performances,” he said.
Jombe said they would beef up their squad by adding new acquisitions in all departments.
“We will acquire new players to strengthen our team. We have names of players we intend to sign, but we can’t divulge their names for now. We will not be in the league to make up numbers. In fact, we will be there to cause havoc in the league,” added Jombe.
Asked if they were would be any major changes in the technical department, Jombe said he was not at liberty to shed more light on the issue. “When the season starts next year our team will be in the best shape to perform. I can’t comment on issues concerning technical issues,” he said.
TAT had the best defence in the Division Two League after conceding just nine goals in 22 matches.
Their strike-force also proved to be one of the best after they netted in 44 goals in as many matches.
