“As the country is in the process of preparing for general elections, I am optimistic that these plebiscites are going to be conducted in a tranquil and enabling environment,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said. He said the police were going to maintain heavy presence despite complaints by some members of the public.
“Contrary to some people who are unwarrantedly complaining of the so-called heavy police presence, we are in fact determined to increase police visibility, whether on the roads, streets or communities in order to enhance police service accessibility as well as deterring would-be offenders,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said.
He appealed to the people to religiously adhere to the laws of the country which are there to safeguard the interests of the nation.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said it was disturbing to note that crimes of concern increased by seven percent from 95 992 cases recorded between January and June last year to 102 754 cases this year.
