Be resourceful, graduate teachers urged

of 195 students at Seke Teachers’ College yesterday, Higher and Tertiary Education Deputy Minister Lutho Tapela said the advent of e-learning made it a must for teachers to be multi-skilled. “As you have graduated today, you must go and deliver quality education and the fact that you have acquired these diplomas does not necessarily mean that is the end of it.”
He said the modern world was charac­terised by social networking and teachers must be resourceful, multi-skilled and well focused.
“As the world has experienced rapid changes, you have to refine your careers and advance in education,” he said.
Seke Teachers’ College principal Mr Ephraim Mutubuki said the college would maintain a national picture and character by enrolling students from all provinces and dis­tricts of Zimbabwe.
“The people in the neighbourhood of Chi­tungwiza and Seke communal lands should also take advantage of their proximity to the college and most of them enroll as day schol­ars.”
The students started the programme in January 2009.
Mr Mutubuki said the college was receiv­ing applications for its intake on Early Childhood Devel­opment to start in January 2013.
He said the college had engaged a number of co-operating partners to control and limit the devastating effects of HIV and Aids.
“Organisations like Unicef, Unesco and others have played a pivotal role in support­ing peer educators’ programmes and at times through provision of equipment and sta­tionery,” he said.
Seke Teacher’s College has an authorised establishment of 126 lecturers including the principal and the vice principal. There are, however, 38 vacant posts at the college.
