Beach volley ball preps continue

pair of Alvina Sibanda and Vuyiswa Dhomo had confirmed that they will take part in the tournament while the other teams are not certain if they will get the funds to travel to Namibia.
The tournament is scheduled to run from November 2 to 4 and is expected to feature teams from South Africa, Zimbabwe and the hosts Namibia.
Zimbabwe were hoping to send four teams made up of two men and two women’s sides for the event.
National team coach, Robert Njerere, said lack of funds is their major setback, as the teams have to find their own resources for the trip.
“So far we have one team that has confirmed its participation at the event, the other guys said they have no funds but if they get the funds, they can confirm next week (this week).
“This is an Open tournament so basically the players have to get their own funds or get people to support them. We can only support them technically because we do not have the financial capacity to take them to these tournaments. We train them, give them equipment and so forth. We want them to gain experience of which when they represent the nation those are the same people they will play with.
“If I get funds I will go with them but ideally they can travel on their own,” said Njerere. Njerere had hoped to use the tournament in Namibia to prepare the teams for various upcoming regional and continental competitions and he said it would have been good to have more teams going to Namibia.
“As a coach I would have wanted as many teams to go and play but at times the limiting factor is money.
“There are some people who have promised they will support the teams, each team needs US$700 to travel to and from Namibia. We are just hoping with time they can come in and assist so it’s still possible we can get more teams going,” said Njerere.
The teams have been training since their return from South Africa where they took part in the Shell Open tournament in Port Elizabeth last month.
