ALBERT Tawanda and Kudzai Nyemba walked away with a beast after coming top in a doubles darts tournament which was held at Sizinda South Beer Garden on Saturday.
Tawanda and Nyemba beat Mgcini Nkala and Simba Negavi in the final. The losing finalists went home with two goats for their efforts.
This year’s competition, which was hosted in conjunction with Bulawayo Darts Social League (BDSL), attracted 50 doubles teams from Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Midlands, Manicaland and Harare Metropolitan provinces.
BDSL vice chairman Paradzai Gumbo described the tournament as a success.
“Everything went well except that we had almost half of the participants compared to last year’s event. It’s so unfortunate that we didn’t advertise the competition in time maybe that contributed to us having fewer players. Performance was beyond our expectations which indicates that the sport is growing in the country. What made it interesting is that we also had ladies vying for the championship,” said Gumbo.
Tournament sponsor, Donald Ndebele said they were happy despite a low attendance compared to last year’s competition.
“It was not as big as compared to last year’s competition with about 50 doubles taking part. The fact that we had players from across the country coming to compete shows how big this tournament is. There is that excitement of winning a beast and as sponsors we are very happy despite a low attendance,” said Ndebele. — @khumzallen
