Beauty queen represents Zimbabwe in Miss/Mrs Africa UK 2024 contest

Yeukai Makona

As a Zimbabwean based in Durham, Northeast of England, I am so excited and humbled to have been announced as a Miss/Mrs Africa UK/IE Finalist for 2024.

This was after a record number of entries were received by the organization.

The program was created for African women, aged 30 years and above, and based in the UK and Ireland.

These are women who would ordinarily not have access to such platforms to compete and be ambassadors of their countries on a global scale.

My journey began this year and will continue beyond.

This is a journey l am embarking on with other beautiful and sophisticated women from all over the UK and Ireland.

Once selected, the finalists will attend virtual workshops to prepare for the journey ahead.

Miss/Mrs Africa UK/IE showcases true beauty that shines from within and celebrates every woman in her uniqueness.

Also, the pageant is not a standard beauty pageant, but a real-life showcase of women in the UK and Ireland.

It is the first and only Miss/Mrs Africa UK/IE pageant and is ready to compete alongside other leading brands in the industry. It is redefining the way beauty is often defined in beauty pageants and dispelling the age-long notion that beauty pageants are reserved for less intelligent women with only physical attributes to show.

The platform promotes more than the physical appearance and incorporates the wholesomeness (all sizes, shapes, and heights), of a woman. It looks at things such as character and how a woman’s activities in the community will build the future.

Gone are the stereotypes that do not match the individuals who would bear the burden of a crown of ideals placed on their heads and diminish the power of their womanhood.

The opportunities that have been created for Miss/Mrs Africa UK/IE entrants are significant in every way and will create a ripple effect across our beautiful country.

Through the Miss/Mrs Africa UK/IE journey, women find themselves again and learn that they are never too old to follow their dreams and become voices of change.
