BEING intimate with a minor has landed a 20-year-old Chipinge man in trouble.

Russel Maphosa of Chidongo Village in Clearwater was dragged to court facing charges of contravening Section 70 of the Criminal Law which makes being intimate with a person below 16 years an offence.

Maphosa pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi.

He was remanded out of custody on his own cognisant and will be back in court on September 14 for trial.

Prosecuting, Ms Chipo Matanga told the court that between April 20 last year and August 2021, the accused became intimate with the complainant on several occasions.

“However, lucky ran out for him on August 18 when the complainant’s father returned from Mozambique unannounced and found the two locked up in his daughter’s bedroom during the night,” said Ms Matanga.

After interrogating the two, the complainant’s father reported the matter to police, leading top Maphosa’s arrest.
