Beitbridge gang member nabbed for robbery

THE Long arm of the law has finally caught up with a 37-year-old man from Chabili village in Beitbridge who is part of a gang which robbed a man of some money and property.

Azwindini Kwinda appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate facing a charge of robbery. He was convicted and sentenced to an effective five-year jail term.

The court heard that on 9 November 2024, Kwinda and his accomplices (who are still at large) blocked the road using big stones intending to rob the victim.

The victim managed to cross, unfortunately his vehicle developed a fault a few meters after the barricade.

The culprit and his accomplices emerged from the bush armed with a gun and fired shots towards the vehicle.

Realising that there was danger, the victim disembarked and hid in the bush.

The culprits stole R5 000, five television sets, a cell phone, a power bank and 10 blankets.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the culprit. Kwinda’s accomplices managed to escape.
