BEITBRIDGE Council is proposing $8,4 million budget for 2019 compared to $6,1 million for 2018 and says the bulk of the money from next year’s budget will be channelled towards service delivery.
Finance director Mr Anymore Mbedzi told stakeholders last week that although the budget had been increased, most rates and tariffs will remain unchanged.
He said after conducting a number of consultative meetings they had reviewed a few rates to be inline with the town’s municipal status
“We have committed the bulk of the budget on capital expenditure in order to accelerate development and improve service delivery.
“The employees costs have been pegged at $2,3 million, which is 30 percent of the budget as recommended by Government,” he said.
He said most rates and service charges will remain unchanged except for a few including bonded warehouses, bakeries, hardwares, supermarkets, mobile telephone substations, TelOne, casinos, fruit machines, fast foods, money transfer agents and banks among others.
Mr Mbedzi said council had lined up a number infrastructure development projects meant to transform the town.
The projects to be implemented include construction of a new primary school, stands servicing, new Dulivhadzimo bus terminus, setting up of modern flea market stalls, upgrading Dulivhadzimo stadium, public lighting, upgrading sewer and water reticulation facilities, construction of a science laboratory at Vhembe High School, roads surfacing, streets and suburbs renaming among others.
