Benjani hails GreenCard backing

yesterday, the spokesman for the organising team, Tsaurayi Muzanenhamo, said the partnership was key to the international football festival they intend to hold in Harare on May 26.

GreenCard Medical Aid will provide a health insurance cover for all the international players, expected for the big day, and the 60 000 fans likely to converge at the giant stadium.
“We are assured of the safety not only of the international players, who are coming, but also for the fans who will be at the National Sports Stadium for the big event,” said Muzanenhamo.

“This is of immense significance because we are aware of incidents that have happened on the football fields of late, especially the Fabrice Muamba issue, and you always need a comprehensive medical insurance cover for such an eventuality.
“Green Card, with its sister companies, will provide world-class cover for all the players taking part and it’s fair to say Dr Munyaradzi Kerere (Green Card Medical Aid founder) and his team were one of the very first people to come on board to offer their support.”

The international profile of the players that Benjani has invited for his testimonial, and their contracts with their clubs, makes it mandatory for a comprehensive medical cover to be provided for them to take part in a match of this nature.
Some big names in football expected in Harare on May 25, for the dinner and the testimonial match the following day, include Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi

Mikel, Kolo Toure, Alex Song, Emmanuel Adebayor, Nwankwo Kanu and Steven Pienaar.
Benjani yesterday hailed all the Zimbabweans who are supporting his project, which is his farewell to the fans after an international career in which he rose to be the Warriors’ captain before quitting two years ago.

Some of the proceeds from the fund-raising dinner and the match, expected to attract a full-house because it provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance for fans to watch the big stars live, are expected to be chanelled to the Benjani Mwaruwarari Foundation.
“I’m grateful for all the support that is being given to me and the organising team by Zimbabweans to ensure that we have a very successful event on May 25 and 26,” said Benjani.

“An event of such a magnitude has never been held in our country before and it is important that we set the right standards and that can only be possible if we receive the kind of support we have been getting from the people. I want to thank Dr Kereke and Green Card Medical Aid Society for their generous donation.”
Some of the country’s greatest footballers are expected to grace the   dinner and the testimonial from their bases across the world.
