AS if the pressure on Benjani Mwaruwari wasn’t already explosive, he now marches into Rufaro today for a showdown against champions Scottland in an Easter Monday Castle Lager Premiership match.
The Undertaker has guided Bosso to five draws on the bounce and there is a growing wave of frustration as chances have come and gone.
The latest draw was against FC Platinum where Bosso were unlucky not to get a penalty when a visiting player handled inside the box.
Benjani isn’t hiding from it.
“We did well against FC Platinum, we are only missing it in the final third,” he said.
“It’s not going to be easy against Scottland FC. We have to keep on working hard to prove more.
“Everyone wants us to score and we also want to do so, the boys need to be calm in front of goal.
“I believe that the moment we start scoring we will start getting positive results.”
The numbers don’t help their case.
Highlanders last won a league match in August last year, a 2-1 away victory over Bikita Minerals.
It’s now 13 games without getting maximum points. The last time Bosso were at Rufaro, they turned on their best performance of the season and scored twice in a 2-2 draw against Dynamos.
That should give Benjani some hope.
Scottland arrive in a different mood.
Norman Mapeza says his camp is settled and ready.
“Everything is okay on this Easter holiday. The games are coming thick and fast. There is no room to mourn. We have no injuries ahead of our game against Highlanders. We have nothing to worry about.”
Scottland have scored nine goals in their last three matches against Manica Diamonds, Hunters and TelOne. After struggling to hit top form in their first two matches, which ended in draws and in which they scored just once, Mabviravira have been scoring for fun.
While Khama Billiat was the soul of their attack in their wins over Manica Diamonds and Hunters, their win over TelOne in the five-goal thriller showed they can also score many goals even on the occasion the talisman doesn’t hit the target.
Highlanders are chasing relief, Scottland want to keep their grip. Elsewhere, Chicken Inn welcome league newcomers Hunters at Barbourfields in another fixture that could carry a bit of bite.
Tonderayi Ndiraya felt his side showed signs of life despite a difficult outing against Manica Diamonds.
“In our game against Manica Diamonds, the boys played very well. We were not really ourselves, we played against the distance.
“I trust my boys, they will improve in the next fixtures,” he said.
