fans turned Rufaro into a cauldron on Sunday afternoon, unnerving Mozambican visitors, Liga Muculmana, with their Zora Butter dance routine in the stands, and pushing their players to go the extra mile during their Champions League showdown.
Twenty-four earlier, CAPS United fans had turned against their team when they rained missiles on the pitch at Gwanzura after a shock 0-2 defeat at the hands of Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premiership tie.
Mukamba believes the DeMbare fans are the best in the world and will play a very influential role again this season in the Glamour Boys’ quest to defend their league title and also make an impact on the continent.
DeMbare will resume their Premiership campaign this afternoon when they take on Monomotapa in a league tie at Rufaro.
The match was originally scheduled for the National Sports Stadium, with Rufaro reserved for the Nigeria national Under-20 women’s practice session ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe tomorrow.
But the PSL announced the change yesterday.
PSL chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, said they received clearance from Zifa and an assurance that the Nigerians have opted to practice early in the day and then retire to the terraces, as also they want to watch the match between Dynamos and Monomotapa.
It also emerged that the National Sports Stadium will not be available as it will be used for the rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations.
The change of the venue should come as good news to the thousands of the DeMbare fans, who have rooted strongly behind their team this season and have always enjoyed watching their team from their traditional home.
Mukamba said they were delighted to learn that the match has been moved back to their home ground.
DeMbare will be aiming to field their best squad after resting a number of their players during the mid-week when they lost 2-1 to Motor Action in the semi-finals of the Independence Cup.
Mukamba and a host of other players like skipper George Magariro, Murape Murape and their man-of-the-moment, Takesure Chinyama, missed that game and are expected back in the fold this afternoon.
“As players we must aim to improve every week,” said Mukamba.
“This is our second league game and we must win it to keep the morale high in the team as we prepare for the Champions League match against Esperance.
“The victory in our first game against Hardbody was good to boost our morale. Our supporters have been fantastic.
“It appears they have doubled their energies this year and we need to repay them by getting the results to ensure the Zorai butter spirit is kept alive.
“But we must be careful because Monoz are not a bad team.
“We must work hard to collect maximum points from them.”
The Dynamos fans were also hailed by the club’s principal sponsors, BancABC, who saluted them this week for playing a big role in Sunday’s victory over Liga Muculmana.
A special relationship has developed between this crew of Dynamos players and their fans.
After the win over Liga Muculmana, the DeMbare players went to each of the four stands at Rufaro, marching while saluting the supporters and then rounding it all with a rhumba dance.
Clearly there is some chemistry between the two parties and the players, led by their inspirational ‘keeper Washington Arubi, believe they owe the fans for their spirited support during the final countdown in last year’s championship race.
The fans also believe they owe the players for their incredible comeback story which saw them overhaul a 12-point deficit to win the league title.
Mukamba, who was guilty of missing several chances in his last match against Liga Muculmana, took time for some self-introspection and admitted he has not been impressed by his performance so far this year.
“To tell you the truth, I have been low this season and I want my confidence back,” said Mukamba.
“Hopefully I will get my first goal against Monomotapa and lift myself up.
“It’s been long since I scored for my team and that is eating me up.”
Dynamos beat Monomotapa 1-0 in the first league tie last year courtesy of Patrick Kumbula’s goal and were victors again in the return match when Rodreck Mutuma and Tawanda Muparati scored a goal each without reply.
But the 2008 champions, who appear stronger this year, will go into the match high in confidence after their sponsors Chroma Paints yesterday unveiled new kits and an assortment of equipment to be used by the club this season.
Monoz coach, Taurai Mangwiro, said his charges were looking forward to stringing together a consistent run after collecting four points in their first two games against Buffaloes and Harare City.
Mangwiro said they have made all the necessary preparations and will treat Dynamos with respect.
“For me the first five games are to look at the direction the team is taking and so far we have no complaints,” said Mangwiro.
“There are a few areas that were exposed in our last game against Harare City and we have been working on that. Dynamos are the defending champions and you would definitely need to be at your best to beat them.”
He also said they were aware of the danger posed by former Monoz forward, Chinyama, who has scored seven goals in four competitive matches for the Glamour Boys.
“Of course, Chinyama is in a rich vein of form but it’s not about him alone because Dynamos have a lot of match winners.
“We need to have a proper game plan, which is not centred on Chinyama alone,” he said.
Chinyama scored three goals in his first league match for DeMbare against Hardbody in a 3-0 win for the Glamour Boys.
He has now scored seven goals, in all competitions, in four matches.
Three matches will be played in Harare today as Harare City will host Gunners at Gwanzura while Black Mambas welcome Buffaloes at Morris Depot. Chicken Inn and Quelaton will be involved in a Bulawayo derby at Luveve.
