NEWLY promoted ZIFA Northern Region Division One League side, MWOS FC president, Patrick Tamson, believes his team will bring comfort to bettors.
He made the remarks at the unveiling of their coach, Wonder Ngoko, to guide the Norton-based side in their Northern Region Division One debut season.
He stressed that they established the club as a way of giving back to gamblers.
“This team will end up being owned by bettors because they are the ones contributing to the team. We are going to get more fans now that we are playing in the Northern Region. “When we were playing in Division Two, our fan base was restricted to only Mashonaland West, but we are now looking forward to expanding it,” said Tamson.
Ngoko said he’s eyeing winning the league championship and is not interested in bringing in ex-PSL players with experience.
“I’m happy with this appointment, it’s a challenge which I’m looking forward to.
“We can’t hide our aim. We are here to win the championship, and that’s our primary target. I’m very confident that the boys at our disposal have what it takes to win the championship and we are also going to strengthen our squad a bit, but with only unheralded young fresh players.
“I believe there’s young talent all over the country begging for the chance to see the light of competitive football and that’s the talent we are going for.”
Highlanders assistant coach, Joel Luphahla, and Arthur Tutani of Simba Bhora, were rumoured to be on their way to join the betting side.
It has also been reported that MWOS were set to unveil Luphahla at the weekend, but Bosso convinced their man to stay.
Meanwhile, the MWOS leadership also presented a US$5 000 cash prize to female beach volleyball side, Zambezi Amazons.
Zambezi Amazons chairperson, Coleen Nyamuburwa, hailed MWOS for their gesture and as it was their first time getting sponsorship.
The country does not have a running beach volleyball league, but they play foreign teams in tours.
Zambezi Amazons are set to depart for a tour of South Africa tomorrow.
“We are really grateful with what MWOS have done for us. Their support means a lot to us because we were being funded by individuals. When a brand of their stature gives you a hand, it’s something amazing,” said Nyamuburwa.
