THE World Boxing Council have given the greenlight for bidding for the WBC Women’s World Super Bantamweight Championship.
The fight will pit Interim World Champion, Kudakwashe Chiwandire, who is challenging the current reigning world champion, Yamileth Mercado. A letter to Chiwandire’s promoters and management reads:
“We hereby kindly ask you to start free negotiations to find an agreement regarding the conditions (date, place, purses etc) for this important championship fight.
“We are looking forward to hearing from you and receiving signed contracts on or before Friday, January 13th, 2023.
“In case you cannot reach an agreement, until that date, we will call for a purse bid.
“Please note that all fighters competing for a WBC title need to be enrolled in the WBC Clean Boxing Programme.”
Delta Force Promotions director, Clyde Musonda, who is also Chiwandire’s trainer, says they will engage all stakeholders in a bid to have the fight in Zimbabwe.
“We are starting negotiations with managers and promoters of our opponent.
“We have to agree where and when the fight will be held.
“I will do whatever I have to do to have this match at home or a neutral venue which gives Kuda and the country an advantage.
“Thus we have to bid for the tournament to be held in Zimbabwe.”
He added:
“But, as of now, I am still talking to my partners and I will notify the boxing board.
“So, let’s see how it will shape out within the time frame we have been given to settle the venue.”
