RISING child actor Sikhanyiso Ngwenya has put Zimbabwe on the continental map after winning a prestigious award in Ghana.

It’s a milestone that is being celebrated as a major breakthrough for young Zimbabwean talent in film.

Ngwenya clinched the accolade at a pan-African awards ceremony that recognises excellence in film, television and child acting, with a special focus on promoting young voices, storytelling and cultural diversity across Africa.

The awards bring together emerging and established creatives from across the continent, spotlighting productions that inspire, educate and give children a platform to shine. The young star walked away with the award following his standout performance in the movie Rise, a film that has been earning praise for its powerful storytelling and emotional depth.

“Thank you for supporting me and thank you for lifting Zimbabwe,” he said, drawing cheers from the audience.

“This award is not just for me, it is for every child who dreams big and believes they can make it.”

The award-winning movie Rise tells the story of resilience, hope and determination, following a young character who overcomes adversity to chase his dreams despite overwhelming challenges.
