CAPS United have made the biggest leap, Scottland have maintained second place while  Dynamos have showed a lot of fight, including some goals.

Highlanders have been pegged back by their failure to convert draws into victories.

It’s just four games into the new Castle Lager Premiership campaign but some interesting statistics have emerged when compared to the state of the marathon, after the same number of games, last year.

In our review, we have featured the Big Three – Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United.

We have also included the defending champions, Scottland, and the three clubs who won a championship in the last five seasons – Simba Bhora, Ngezi Platinum Stars and FC Platinum.

It’s also likely that one of these seven clubs will be crowned champions again this year.

We have looked at where these seven clubs were, after four matches into the season last year, and where they are now.

 

The results are quite interesting:

 

• After four league matches last year, CAPS United were bottom of the table, which features only these seven clubs, with the Green Machine having picked just ONE point from their first four games.
• Makepekepe’s single point came in their first league game when they were held to a 1-1 draw by GreenFuel before they lost their next three games – 0-2 against Scottland, 0-2 against Triangle and 0-1 against TelOne.
• Now, the same club find themselves top of the table with 12 points from their first four games after winning all their matches. The Green Machine have gained 11 points, when compared to the same number of points last season. They have also won four more games and scored five more goals. They have also conceded five fewer goals.

• Scottland maintain second place, on the seven-team table, and the champions have actually added a point to their tally when compared to last season when they had seven points from their first four games.
• The Mabvuku side have eight points and, while they had already lost a game in their first four league games last year, when they went down 0-1 at home to Ngezi Platinum Stars, they are yet to lose this season.
• Last year, they were three points behind the leading side, on this seven-team log, and now they find themselves four points adrift of the leaders but within the same striking range.
• There is some progress at Dynamos who, after four league games last season, had six points while, having played the same number of games this season, they have accumulated eight points.
• This represents two more points, at this stage of the campaign, but that is not the area where they have been very impressive. This has come in their offensive unit because, at this stage last year, they had scored just two goals.
• The Glamour Boys have scored a league-leading seven goals, the same number of goals which Scottland have scored, which represents a huge leap forward for the record champions.
• They also get a reward for their progress as they move from the fourth place they occupied, on the seven-team table last year, to third place this year. It is also the position DeMbare find themselves on the overall table.
• Ngezi Platinum were the most impressive team in the first four league games of the season last year after winning three and drawing one for a total of 10 points out of a possible 12.
• However, while they have been impressive again this year, they find themselves with fewer points as they have accumulated eight points from two wins and two draws.
• The 2023 champions have actually dropped two points when compared to the tally which they had after the first four league games last year.
