Bigger, better bridal show is born

THE annual bridal competition – a top-notch event in local showbiz – is back with a bang.

This year’s bridal show is the product of a partnership between The Sunday Mail and ZTN Prime.

The rebranded event returns following a Covid-19-induced hiatus.

There is more to look forward to at the “Bride and Roora of the Year Competition”, as the revered family show has morphed into a hybrid event, which takes into account different aspects of our culture.

“We are truly excited that the Bride of the Year competition is back! It is bigger too. We have joined forces with ZTN Prime and that should say something to our readers and viewers.

“We have added a new dimension of roora squads, a phenomenon that has gripped this country in recent years. we are indeed moving with the times! Let the fun begin,” said Sunday Mail Editor Mrs Victoria Ruzvidzo.

“ZTN is excited about the bridal show and its partnership with The Sunday Mail. The new format involves the bride of the week and month being selected on a fascinating weekly television show titled ‘The Bridal Show’. The Sunday Mail is a family brand, so is ZTN Prime. Therefore, we are growing both brands while promoting the family,” said ZTN general manager Nomsa Nkala.

The Bride and Roora of the Year search is national. Brides have to submit their photographs and those of their cakes or roora squads either in person or online to enter the contest.

Entry forms and further requirements are available in the hard copy of The Sunday Mail and on the website.

Two different panels will be selected to come up with weekly winners for the Bride, as well as Roora competitions. One of them will then be adjudged winner of the two main categories.

“The Bridal Show” on ZTN Prime will show the adjudication process and carry some interviews with weekly and monthly winners.

Also, in the build-up to the bridal extravaganza, finalists in the bride, roora and cake categories will be published on four consecutive Sundays.

Before the final, selected monthly winners are then subjected to a readers/viewers’ vote. The one with the highest number of votes will be crowned Bride of the Year, followed by the first runner-up and second runner-up.

The same format is used for the Roora of the Year and Cake of the Year competitions.

The eventual winners are expected to walk away with exciting prizes that include a honeymoon in Victoria Falls for both categories, a holiday retreat in Nyanga and Darwendale for the first and second runner-up, respectively.

There will also be weekly shopping vouchers and electrical appliances to be won. Other categories of the competition will include best décor, best photographer, best make-up artist.

The final will be held in December.

The show, which will feature top singers, has over the years firmly established itself as a premier bridal event in the country.

Besides the weekly coverage as a build-up to the event, the ceremony will enjoy extensive mention on ZTN Prime, one of the country’s leading television channels.

A week after the show, a supplement to commemorate the event will be published in The Sunday Mail and interviews conducted on ZTN Prime, with support from partners and sponsors.
