A female member of a Nyau cult in Mazowe living with HIV has been arrested on allegations of sexually abusing four teenage boys who had been initiated into the cult.

Nyarai Tambani (30), Bishop Chinhanga (39) and Thompson Chiwara (26) of Mazowe were arrested last week for forcing four boys aged between 14 and 18 into being intimate with Tambani.

According to state papers at the Bindura Magistrate Court, the accused connived to have Tambani engage in sexual intercourse with the boys.

“On the day in question, Tambani is said to have removed her clothes and ‘taught’ the boys on how to be intimate with a woman,” read part of the court papers.

“Later during the day, Tambani removed her clothes, laid on her back and Chinhanga ordered the boys to caress and have unprotected sex with the accused female.

“The minors however refused, prompting Chiwara and Chinhanga to beat the boys until they complied.”

The accused were arrested after one of the boys informed his elder brother of the incident. The elder brother later made a police report.

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that Tambani is living with HIV and has been on antiretroviral treatment since March 2013.

The boys all tested HIV negative two days after the incident.

The accused are in police custody after failing to appear before the Bindura Magistrate Court last Friday. They are expeceted to be in court this week.
