A BINGA man has been arrested for allegedly beating a fellow villager until she fainted then raped her and left her for dead.
The victim regained consciousness two hours later and reported the issue to the police.
Enoch Munsaka, 38, from Miyanda 4 village under Chief Siansali pleaded guilty to assault and rape when he appeared before Binga provincial magistrate Steven Ndlovu.
He was remanded in custody to September 2 for continuation of trial.
His victim lost her front teeth and sustained other injuries all over her body and is being treated at Binga Hospital.
For the State Bruce Maphosa said on August 16 Munsaka waylaid the woman, 39, on her way from church and raped her.
Munsaka who was armed with a wooden axe handle grabbed her from behind as she passed near some bushes and struck her on the head.
“On Saturday around 10AM Munsaka waited in the bushes and attacked her on her way from church.
“He struck her on the head and beat her until she was unconscious then proceeded to rape her once. He then fled from the scene,” said Maphosa.
Maphosa said Munsaka also took her cellphone valued at $30.
The court heard that when the woman, who had recognised Munsaka, regained consciousness at around 12PM she rushed to the police station and made a report.
“Munsaka was apprehended in the evening of the same day,” said Maphosa.
