adminIn an interview in Binga recently, the RDC chief executive officer, Mr Joshua Muzamba said it was of importance that they came up with the physical plan of the area as they prepare for the town status.
“People from physical planning are working on updating the local plan for the town. It is important since it will show us various economic development points and possible routes of expansion as we prepare for the growth of the town as a tourist destination. The plan will also inform us of the tourist capacity and our potential so that we work on important areas like roads to make this place accessible,” he said.
Mr Muzamba said, as they work towards applying for a town status, it is important that they have proper water and sewer reticulation.
“We believe that there is need for that separation between the rural and town areas. As a potential town, Binga is growing. We now have two residential areas namely Gowera and Garikai high-density suburbs,” said Mr Muzamba.
He noted that in the past year, the RDC had been allocated $240 000 by government for sewer and water reticulation.
“We used that money to upgrade our water and sewer systems in Gowera and Garikai high density areas, as well as at the Binga District Hospital. We are increasing water volumes for these areas,” he said.
From the Zimbabwe National Road Authority, Mr Muzamba said they received $65 000, which he said they used to upgrade the roads in the area.
“We managed to open up access roads to designated development areas since there is an increase in the uptake of our land.
“On rehabilitating the roads, we hired 35 local casual workers as of the last quarter of the previous year and as of the first quarter of the year. These were clearing the bush and stumping thereby contributing towards employment creation,” Muzamba said
He also said they were very optimistic about an upsurge in tourist arrivals because the 81km Siabuwa-Binga Rroad was now passable.
