Bishop Colin Nyathi launches 20 books

Danisa Masuku
FOUNDER and Senior Pastor of Harvest House International Church, Bishop Colin Nyathi, launched 20 books in a landmark event that also saw the opening of a book store at the churchas Fife Street and 6th Avenue branch on Wednesday.

The launch was attended by Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial Minister Nomthandazo Sandi Moyo, former Education Minister David Coltart, former National University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Professor Phineas Makhurane, Bishop Nyathias wife Reverend Doctor Sarah Nyathi, Harvest House International pastors and guest pastors from other churches around the city.

Minister Sandi Moyo congratulated Bishop Nyathi for contributing material that will benefit Zimbabweans in spiritual matters.

a?Allow me to congratulate you Bishop Colin Nyathi on the authorship of over 20 books, and assure you that your contribution in education of Zimbabweans on spiritual matters is of paramount importance to the achievement of national strategies,a? Moyo said.

More than 500 people attended the event. Bishop Nyathi said the average price for each book is $12. More than 1 000 copies were sold at the launch.

a?From a rough estimate I can safely say more than 1 000 copies of the books were sold because a number of people bought more than two books each,a? he said.

The books will be available for sale at Harvest House International churches across the country, abroad as well as online.

a?The books will be available for sale at our 320 branches worldwide,a? said Bishop Nyathi.

He estimated that at the end of 2017 the church would open more branches bringing the total number to 500 thus widening the market for the books.

The recently opened book store started off as a library before undergoing refurbishments.

a?It (book store) started off as a library serving the School of Ministry and we decided to change it into a book store where various books would be sold.A We will also sell books from other authors in the country and abroad,a? he said.

The Bishop encouraged other church leaders to write books that will leave a lasting legacy as well as sharing spiritual knowledge with worshippers.

His inspiration to write was derived from pastors and congregants, some of whom are holders of degrees in various fields.

a?A number of our congregants are holders of various degrees and doctorates and also have written several articles on a number of different subject matters so I was also inspired to write. My wife also encourages me to put down all the information I have in a book,a? he said.

a?The winning formula for balancing ministry work, writing and family is time management.

a?I have a strict timetable that I follow. I do a lot of activities which include playing soccer, golf, going to the gym, writing but more importantly I make time for my family and ministry work,a? he added.

The books were printed in South Africa and China, as a way of cutting costs.

One of the books cost slightly less than a $1 to print.

The books are a series of his sermons that he has conducted, dating back to the days when Harvest House International was formed.

a?I choose a topic and explore it from the books of Genesis down to Revelation. It took me two months to put down all the material that I have gathered in the last 22 years,a? he said.

The books tackle various pertinent issues that range from leadership to marital issues.
