Bishop killed in road accident

A bishop of a Zionist Church in Gwanda district died in an accident when the car he was travelling in overturned.
The accident happened on Friday at about 12.30pm at the 175km peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. The bishop, Mbuso Ndlovu whose age was not given, but is from Switsha village under Chief Nhlamba, was travelling with 15 other men, who were also injured in the accident when their vehicle, a Toyota Hilux pick up overturned and threw out all the 16.

Bishop Ndlovu died on the spot after sustaining serious head injuries and his body was taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary.
A witness who was driving behind told Chronicle the 16 were on their way to bury a church member in Dwala area, 70km from Gwanda Town.

“We suspect the bishop hit one of the pillars of the bridge with his head when he fell out of the vehicle,” said the witness.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the accident.

He said the 15 injured passengers were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for treatment.
“Four of them were admitted while others were treated and discharged,” said Insp Ndebele.
He urged motorists to check their vehicles before they embarked on a journey. He said motorists should also desist from overloading.
