HE is known for his moving sermons at the pulpit but very few ever thought Bishop Collin Nyathi of Harvest House International Church is also a gifted actor.
His congregants were left asking for more after seeing the cast of a sizzling feature film titled the Turning Point that premièred last week at Harvest House International Church in Bulawayo with their bishop being part of the cast.
The play draws its cast of twenty actors from Bulawayo’s entertainment industry where perhaps for ease of his role and to preserve his dignity Bishop Nyathi acts as the bishop while a lot more others occupy different roles.
The film produced by Russell Moyo and directed by George Moyo, a passionate filmmaker who has worked with ZTV, saw hundreds of people throng the famous venue.
It is a film which included big names in the music industry in the City of Kings namely T1nda and Afro-pop sensation, Mzoe7.
The event was attended by people from the Christian community as well as the entertainment industry. The red carpet event was a glitzy and glamorous affair as the audience came dressed to the nines.
Turning Point is an intriguing story about a young Christian man who gets derailed in his Christian walk. He succumbs to drugs due to peer pressure and is beaten and left unconscious. Amazingly, he wakes up through God’s intervention and this becomes his turning point.
The producer, Russell Moyo spoke to Sunday Life revealing that the movie is flexible and can be watched by anyone regardless of their religious persuasion.
“The point of the film is to teach young people to stay away from drugs, peer pressure and put God first and it also touches on single parents who never give up on their children even if they backslide,” Moyo said.
Moyo said he was humbled by the diversity of the audience that came to support their work since it was the first time they premièred a movie on the big screen since they usually do stage plays.
“We never thought we would encounter an audience with such different people of all ages and races. The support that we have received so far is amazing and we hope to maintain this in future and other productions,” he said.
He also said despite the group’s teamwork and effort to make the film a reality for them, the film would not have been possible without the support that they got from the pastors and other members they approached.
Harvest House International will soon be launching a television station which will see Umkhumbie being part of the massive project. — @kayskudzai
