Biya rallies Warriors

Sikhumbuzo Moyo, Senior Sports Reporter
UNITED States of America-based former national team skipper Thulani Biya Ncube has rallied the Warriors to pull through against Liberia in Montrovia tomorrow in a Total Africa Cup of Nations Group G qualifier.

Ncube, the only Zimbabwean player to be bestowed with the honour of captaining three teams, Highlanders, national Under-23 and the senior national team simultaneously, said the Warriors have been doing well in all their matches to date and must continue with that trajectory.

“They have done well so far and must just continue with that positive mentality.

“They could be heavily intimidated because this is a very crucial match for both teams but I have all the confidence and I believe in them.

“Most if not all of the guys in the squad are tried and trusted professionals who have gone through such situations,” said Ncube in an interview with Chronicle Sport from his base yesterday.

He said like every Zimbabwean, he was confident the boys will weather the storm and seal their place for the finals in Cameroon.

“Qualification is almost certain now and I know they will be there,” said Ncube.

A draw is enough for Warriors to book a ticket to Cameroon, venue for next year’s Afcon finals.

All the players except the European based trio of skipper Knowledge Musona, Marvelous Nakamba and Alec Mudimu arrived in Montrovia on Thursday evening while the out of Africa based ones were expected to touch down at around 8PM yesterday.

Speaking from Montrovia yesterday, Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said the coaches held a training session at the match venue, the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex while a final one is expected to be conducted today before the battle tomorrow.

The match will be beamed live on SuperSport 9 at 6PM.
