The graduate, Panashe Mwinga, died in a road accident that occurred near Mapinga along the Harare-Chirundu Highway, a few hours after graduating on Thursday last week.

Her father, who was driving the car, is an engineer in Matebeleland North Province and was in the capital for the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
Eng Mwinga, his wife and eight-year-old daughter are battling for their lives at a hospital in Harare.
In honour of the late graduate’s life, the CUT Students Representative Council declared Monday, September 1, 2025, as “Black Monday”.
The declaration is in solidarity with the bereaved family.
“We encourage all students to wear black on this day as a sign of collective mourning and respect,” said (SRC)’s Minister for External Affairs, Information and Publicity, Marlvin Saint Madanda.
Zimpapers visited the university on Monday morning and observed that the institution’s students heeded the call to mourn their departed college mate.
