FOR Andrew Nyika, a 33-year-old football fan from Waterfalls, this was a Black Sunday — his two favourite teams lost while his car was broken into at Rufaro Stadium.
Nyika watched his favourite local club, CAPS United, succumbing to a 1-2 defeat to Yadah in what was effectively a relegation battle.
After the game he found out that his car had been broken into.
Two suspects, Takunda Taona, 17, and Mike Masviba, 22, both from Mbare Flats, broke into his Nissan, which was parked outside the stadium.
They used an unknown tool to open the left passenger door.
They stole three jackets, four pairs of football boots, several bottles of Four Cousins wine, and a Huawei Met 50 cellphone.
The stolen valuables were worth about US$650.
Thanks to a tip-off, the police arrested Takunda and Mike shortly after the incident.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed their arrest.
He said that property worth US$100 was recovered.
This includes the stolen wine and a pair of football boots.
“Police arrested two suspects for theft from a car case at the Rufaro Stadium car park.
“Four shooters and wine bottles were recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
To add to Andrew’s woes, later that day, his beloved Manchester United also lost to Arsenal.
