ZIFA Southern Region Divison One bound Blackrock FC have made a bold declaration that they are ready for the bigger challenge next year after clinching the Zifa Matabeleland North Division 2A league in the just-ended season.

Blackrock finished the season with 51 points from 21 games with Makwika FC settling for second position with 41 points from same number of games.

Speaking on the sidelines of the trophy and shields handover ceremony at their Cinderella ground yesterday afternoon, chairman and team director Shiringinyai Munotengwa said they are not in Division One to make numbers.

“We are excited as a team for the achievement of being winners. We are ready for the challenge as we base our success story on our strong administration tenets off the pitch.

We also realised that we need to have a team of young players who are eager for success than have big names who most times are affected by their big ego,” said Munotengwa.

Team Manager Clive Chiyembekedza echoed the statement by saying that team work was behind Blackrock’s success story although it was not easy sailing for the club.

Chiyembekedza headed praises on the team but gave special mention to players like Tobani Ncube, captain Prosper Masuku, former Hwange veteran striker Gilbert Zulu, Artwell Dube, Alfred Phiri, James Ngwenya and youthful Hwange High School student Nkosilathi Ngwenya for their stellar and consistent performances throughout the campaign.

“We have a good pool of players but definitely we will reinforce the set up with a few experienced players so that we leave a mark in Division One and even beyond,” added Chiyembekedza.

Blackrock FC, who have caught the attention of the community with solid sponsorship and sound administration structures are coached by Isaac Nyoni. Obvious Muleya is the assistant coach while Mwangala Tshuma, father to Hwange FC player Clyvert Tshuma is the technical advisor

Smart Mwachenya is the goalkeeper’s coach, while Drought Ncube is the medic and Freddy Milazi is the physical trainer. Matengu Mutabani is the kit manager.

Tichaona Mfandaidza completes the technical set up as Head of Technical department. In the Division 2B league (Victoria Falls) Golden Lions FC emerged champions.
