THE prevailing cold winter season recently drove a city man to break into a neighbour’s house and steal five blankets.
Henry Madhumbuza (23) appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura facing unlawful entry and theft charges.
Madhumbuza is denying the charges. He was denied bail after the State proved to the court that he was of no fixed abode.
Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted. The court heard that sometime in June, Madhumbuza broke into Chipo Machinga’s house at Number 23, Milton Road, Fairbridge Park in Mutare and stole five blankets, two pairs of jeans, five shirts, four pairs of shoes and a Nokia Lumia cellphone.
“He left behind his own jacket and shoes which led to his arrest,” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Madhumbuza denied the allegations saying he too had been a victim of the theft since he was also missing his jacket and shoes.
“Your Worship, I did not steal those blankets. I am not a thief,” he said.
