POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old man whose body was found with stab wounds in Old Magwegwe last week.
The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Zibusiso Sibanda of Old Lobengula and 49-year-old Zibusiso Zivanai Sibanda of Mabuthweni, both in Bulawayo.
The deceased, Mlimisi Ncube (52) of Pelandaba West, was discovered dead at around 5.10am on June 22 along the roadside at the Makaratini turn-off in Old Magwegwe. His body was lying in a pool of blood with two stab wounds to the right side of the chest.
Investigations took a breakthrough in the early hours of June 23 when security personnel at the entrance of a local bar in Magwegwe searched one of the suspects, Zibusiso Sibanda, and allegedly recovered a blood-stained Okapi knife from his trouser pocket.
The security guard immediately alerted police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
“During questioning, Sibanda implicated his alleged accomplice, Zibusiso Zivanai Sibanda, who was subsequently arrested at his residence in Mabuthweni. The arrest led to the recovery of two cellphones allegedly stolen from the deceased during the attack,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
Insp Msebele commended members of the public for their cooperation, saying information and vigilance by citizens played a key role in the swift arrest of the suspects before sending a chilling warning to criminals that police will continue to pursue offenders relentlessly.
“Even if criminals commit offences under the cover of darkness, the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with them,” she said.
The two suspects are expected to appear in court facing murder charges.
