THERE has been a wave of deadly stabbings in Mashonaland West with three men, including one who was attacked after a misunderstanding which started at a pool table, being killed.
Most of the killers fled from the scene, and are yet to be arrested, after a bloody week for the province.
One of the tragic incidents happened at Jiggies Shop in Kadoma where Marshall Mhosva, 24, was stabbed to death by someone known only as Giant during a pool game.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro that the accused had an altercation with Mhosva, when he wanted to pass near a pool table.
“Giant drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Mhosva once on the left side, just below the chest and fled from the scene,” said Kohwera.
He said Mhosva was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“Police are concerned with murder cases being committed throughout the province over petty issues. People must respect the sanctity of life,” Insp Kohwera.
“Police are also appealing to anyone with information that can assist investigations leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact any nearest police station.”
In another incident, a misunderstanding at a local bottle store ended in tragedy for a Chinhoyi man after he was stabbed several times with the knife he had intended to use in self defence.
He died on the spot.
Insp Kohwera told H-Metro that the police have arrested a 30-year-old man, Bonfree Mungondi, of Mpata Section, Chinhoyi, in connection with the murder.
The tragedy occurred at Chiwara Bottle Store last week at around 7 pm. Insp Kohwera said Mungondi, and four other suspects who are on the run, were at the bottle store when they had a misunderstanding with the now deceased Elijah Chirambiwa, 33, of Gadzema section.
“An altercation ensued between them resulting in the four suspects assaulting the now deceased Chirambiwa with beer bottles.”
He said Chirambiwa retaliated and drew a knife from his pocket and advanced towards Mungondi.
Insp Kohwera said Chirambiwa was overpowered and one of the suspects took the knife and used it to stab him several times leading to his death.
Inspr Kohwera said the suspects fled from the scene. A police report was made at ZRP Chemagamba.
In a related matter, two similar murder cases were reported in Karoi and Kadoma last week.
Inp Kohwera said a 47-year-old man, Malvin Mukore of Village 4C, Karoi, was stabbed to death at Lenzo Shopping centre, after he was found drinking beer with the wife of the accused, John Nyoni, around 8:30pm.
He said Nyoni fled after committing the offence.
