THE Intwasa Fashion Show held at Hope Centre in Bulawayo on Saturday night was characterised by exquisite and captivating designs from the city’s upcoming and seasoned designers.
The show, which was part of the Intwasa Extra, saw local designers joining South Africa-based Zimbabwean Tapfumanei Munenge who had breathtaking designs that perfectly fit various models who walked down the ramp.
The designers, who had an opportunity to showcase 10 of their garments from their 2015 collections, included Sanah Designs, Ganu Creations, Sam Lui, Penelope Creations, Crox Designs, Ara Kani, JJ Rags, Shadow By, Sidumiso, Zah Designs and Umlongo.
Show producer Gilmore Moyo, popularly known as Gilmore T, said the show which comes at a time when Bulawayo is celebrating 120 years, was a success as it drew more than 10 designers to showcase their designs.
“It was great working with the talented designers from the city. It shows that there’s growth in the fashion industry when designers take up the challenge of dressing an average person off the streets.
“For this particular show, they were challenged to dress up plus size models who represented our mothers and sisters who aren’t models,” said Gilmore.
He expressed disappointment with the Bulawayo Board of Designers who could not showcase their garments at the show due to some internal challenges.
“It’s unfortunate that the Bulawayo Board of Designers couldn’t showcase their designs at this particular show due to internal reasons and hopefully in the near future they can be part of groundbreaking projects which challenge their creativity as a board”, said Gilmore.
The show, which was a co-hosted by Hunnar Management Agency and Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo, had seasoned model Tholakele Dlamini and actress Eve Mwatse walking down the ramp in striking garments.
