New leadership in Masvingo

Masvingo Bureau
ZIMBABWE Liberation War Collaborators’ Association chairman Cde Pupurai Togarepi has been elected the new Zanu-PF chairman for Masvingo Province.

He takes over from Cde Paradzai Chakona who was acting chairman following the ousting of Retired Brigadier-General Callisto Gwanetsa recently.

Cde Togarepi was thrust into power in elections held on Saturday during the Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial inter-district conference that also overwhelmingly endorsed President Mugabe’s continued leadership together with the elevation of First Lady Grace Mugabe to become the Secretary for Women’s Affairs.

Cde Togarepi was elected unopposed in polls that saw Cde Chakona reverting to his original position as vice-chairman with Masvingo West Member of Parliament Cde Ezra Chadzamira becoming the new provincial secretary for administration.

Bikita South Member of Parliament Cde Jappy Jaboon was elected political commissar with Chivi Rural District Council chairman Cde Killer Zivhu becoming treasurer.

Former Chiredzi South Member of Parliament Cde Ailess Baloyi was elected secretary for information and publicity.

Cde Togarepi said he was happy to take over the leadership of Zanu-PF in Masvingo following the cleansing of the revolutionary party by removing elements that were plotting to oust President Mugabe from power.

He said the major challenge facing Masvingo was lack of development.
