Body-builder Mazikana rules the roost again

Blessing Rwizi
HULKY Brighton Mazikana who has been dominating the Mr, Ms Manicaland body building competitions in recent years romped to victory in the same competition once again.

The contest was held at Mutare Hall (formerly Queens Hall).

Winners in different categories are proceeding to Harare for the Mr Zim competitions which will be held in Harare in two weeks time.

Mazikana outshone several other contestants in the seniors and got the first position. He brushed aside stiff challenge from Eddie Kudzamaoko who finished second, while Blessing Saunyama was second runner-up.

The Body Focus bodybuilder, Mazikana, said he was not under any pressure and he did not doubt that he would scoop the first position owing to his experience.

“I’ve been taking part and winning in the Mr, Ms Manicaland competitions for a number of years and I was not under any pressure ahead of this years’ competition. Actually I had no doubt that the first position was mine in the seniors’ category,” said Mazikana.

However, the juniors’ category proved to be more challenging as all athletes appeared to have had adequately prepared.

Lee Dzinzi’s hard work at the gym paid off this year after he was the best body builder in the juniors’ category

Dzinzi was the first runner up in last year’s edition. Stephen Pariyano was the first runner-up, while the overrated Levin Segurai was second runner-up.

In the bench press-up competition, Prosper Saungweme won the contest after lifting 180kgs. He was also the winner in the same category on last year’s competition.

Saungweme came first in the dead lift and bench press competitions while Tafadzwa Mikiya settled for the second position.

Chamunorwa Marange from Sakubva Fitness Centre came first in the Male Fitness category.

Manicaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association chairperson Farai ‘Talawa’ Kasecha said it was pleasing to note that the event went according to plan.

“Competition was good as all contestants had enough time to prepare. I want to encourage everyone to keep on working hard in the gym.

“Those who failed to make it this year should not lose focus but aim high next year. I also want to take this opportunity to encourage companies and individuals to support this sport as it promotes friendship and peace among citizens as well as offering entertainment to locals,” said Kasecha.

“Going into the future, I am passionately appealing to all businessmen in Mutare to help the sport. Our competitors need accommodation and food in Harare so I’m appealing to all those who made pledges to fulfill their promises. New corporate partners are also welcome.

Kasecha heartily thanked Golly Bakeries, SPAR Mutare, Madziro brothers, Hanzu, Villa Spot, Chitsa Bar, Boss Nyika, Huuyadzo, Pharmacity, Mirirai Driving school, Chaplin, Tavonga, Wholesale centre, Mr Nhemarare, Club Mandisa, Soul City, Bingura and Quick Save for their contributions which saw the success of the 2015 Mr, Ms Manicaland competition.
