Body found floating in river, one arrested

THE body of a 33-year-old man from Chinyudze Business Centre in Makoni, who has been reported missing, was found in a river.

The incident happened on May 23, 2025.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, said Shephard Mashava’s body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition.

The body was found floating in a river, facing upwards at the confluence of the Mwarazi and Chinyika rivers.

The body was discovered by Abraham Makavandingwa, who was herding cattle in the area.

It was later positively identified by Shingirirai Mashava, the deceased’s brother.

“Mashava had been reported missing on May 17 after he was assaulted and his death is believed to be connected to the incident, and James Gorge is currently in police custody in connection with the case.” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

He said investigations are still in progress.
