Bodybuilders in clean-up campaign

Blessing Gondokondo Sports Reporter —
BODYBUILDERS recently find time from their workouts to embark on a clean-up exercise in Mutare.

The participants were drawn from Body Focus, Body Active, Jade, Sakubva Fitness Centre, Dangamvura Gym House and Aqua Karate Club.

The clean-up campaign was also attended by renowned bodybuilding enthusiasts, including Mr Manicaland, Blessing ‘Hunkie Bee’ Saunyama, Mr Zimbabwe Under-23 holder, Lee Dzinzi and his runner-up, Simbarashe Munzara and Chamunorwa Marange.

In an interview, Knowledge Nyamhoka, who runs Sakubva Fitness Centre, said they wanted to demystify the sport which is usually associated with violence.

“The public always has a negative perspective of bodybuilders and fitness athletes. They are viewed as violent and bully so through the campaign we had recently we were sending a message home that we are peace-loving people who also have a role to play in ensuring a clean environment,” said Nyamhoka.

He said the campaign was also aimed at repairing the damage caused by the usually poorly organised Mr Mutare Bodybuilding contest where participants end up fighting among themselves.

Nyamhoka also said they wanted the community to meet some of the celebrated athletes in the sport in Mutare.
