Bodybuilders in fight against drug abuse

BODYBUILDERS at the Mufakose Community Gym in Harare are raising funds for the rehabilitation of 50 youths who are struggling with drugs and substance abuse.

The youths came forward and sought help from the bodybuilders during a “Say no to drugs” awareness campaign held in Mufakose and Budiriro last week.

An estimated 1 000 people attended the campaign.

Tongai Nheta, the patron of the Mufakose Community Gym organising committee, bemoaned the high prevalence of drug and substance abuse in one of Harare’s oldest suburbs.

According to Nheta, drug and substance abuse is not only confined to the youths in Mufakose.

“Sadly, we noticed that much older members of our community are abusing drugs and substances. We are currently raising funds which will be used to send about 50 youths to drugs and substance rehabilitation facilities,” Nheta said.

The bodybuilders will also use the Mr and Ms Mufakose bodybuilding contest, which will be held at Rutendo Hall on September 7, as a drug and substance abuse awareness platform.

Apart from the bodybuilders, musicians, dancers and models, among others, are going to take part in the proceedings that are related to the body building contest.
