Pardon Muvengwa whose age is not known and who was using the alias Dr Sithole was arrested last Tuesday afternoon.
Muvengwa is also alleged to have prejudiced the hospital of an undisclosed amount of money which he collected from discharged patients who thought they were settling their bills.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector James Sabau confirmed the arrest and said investigations were in progress.
Insp Sabau said on December 13 around 2pm police received a tip off that a suspicious man was roaming the wards at the hospital.
“Police officers proceeded to look for the man and found him at the accounts department dressed just like a doctor with a stethoscope hung on his shoulders. They asked the man to identify himself.
“They quizzed him and he identified himself as Dr Sithole from ‘theatre’ before they took him to the police post at the hospital for further questioning,” he said.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that a young woman paid him US$230 to facilitate a nurse training placement, while another paid him US$380,” said Insp Sabau.
When Muvengwa was arrested, Insp Sabau said police recovered a list of patients owing Parirenyatwa Hospital money he is suspected to have been following up to collect.
Police said Muvengwa was still in custody as investigations were continuing and is expected to appear in court soon.
Insp Sabau urged anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at Harare Central Police Station.
