A HARARE woman has appeared in court for allegedly duping a lawyer of $7 750 worth of timber.

The court heard that Vungayi Chivore saw an advert in the media suggesting that Rutendo Clara Toto and her husband (name not provided) were selling timber.

She deposited $7 750 into Toto’s Steward Bank account, but the couple failed to supply the timber.

Chivore made a follow up and Toto and her husband failed to supply the timber.

They promised to deliver the timber on November 30, 2018 but still failed.

Chivore reported the matter to the police leading to Toto’s arrest.

The husband reportedly killed himself on hearing about his wife’s arrest.

Toto appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Victoria Mashamba last week.

She was remanded out of custody to January 11.

Mr Shepherd Makonde prosecuted.
