Bomber geared for EFC

SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean heavyweight cage fighter Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo is geared up for a potentially explosive Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) Africa 73 bill against United States of America’s Jared Venderaa.

The fight will be broadcast across the African continent on Kwese TV from Sun City Resort in South Africa’s North West province on Saturday.

Moyo returns to the ring after 10 months, having last fought in November when he won on points against Nico Yamdjie.

In an interview from his Johannesburg base yesterday, the pugilist declared himself ready to take down “The Mountain”, as Venderaa is popularly known.

His last fight was in April when he knocked out Ukrainian Maksym Pedyura in Harare. Moyo floored the Ukrainian boxer after two minutes 49 seconds in the first-round.

In his four months of intensive training, Moyo has lost 10kgs, from 128kgs to 118kgs.

“I’ll go for the fight at 118kgs, which is 3kgs more of my best performing weight. I think the 10kgs that I’ve shed off have allowed me to move quicker. I’m happy with the progress I have made because it wasn’t easy losing weight during winter,” said Moyo.

Venderaa has six career wins and three defeats in his nine EFC fights. Moyo is eager to beat the American and take his Mixed Martial Arts career wins to nine.

Moyo has eight career wins from 13 bouts.

He lost to British Stuart Austin in July 2017, but recovered from that defeat to beat Yamdjie on points later that year. – @ZililoR
