Bomber gets fight

The bout will be on the under card of Chris van Heerden and Matthew Hatton’s International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight title fight.

Moyo has eight fights under his belt. He has won three contests against Justice Silinga, Kali Kalembe and Stephen Castle.

The Bulawayo Bomber, as Moyo is also known has lost to Joseph Chingangu, Flo Simba and twice to Ilunga Makaku.

His only draw was against Johnny Muller.

In an interview from his Johannesburg base yesterday, Moyo said he would be returning to Sandton Convention Centre hoping to register another victory there. His last fight at the cosy Johannesburg suburb was last year in November when he beat Silinga on a unanimous points decision.

That match came a month after Moyo had lost on points to Zambia’s Joseph Chingangu in another heavyweight non-title fight.

“I am very happy that a fight for March has been confirmed. I am looking forward to fighting Machimana and I know it’s a tricky fight but I am ready for the fight. I am much fit because I never took a break during the festive season and I have already upped the tempo as I am training twice a day. I am also doing sparring twice a week.

“Machimana must expect a tough match from me because I want to raise my stakes and I have fond memories of Sandton Convention Centre as I won my last fight there,” said Moyo.

The Nkulumane born pugilist’s fight against Machimana is one of the many he intends to have to enable him to compete for a title fight before his sponsorship ends in August.

“I am grateful to my sponsor Paul Jonker of Brunel Laboratory for their support through the Elev8 brand. I hope to win my next fight which I believe will be my next step towards securing a title fight,” Moyo said.
