Several artistes will tomorrow perform at a benefit concert scheduled for the Book Café.
The money raised will be channelled towards the refurbishment of Book Cafe which is facing serious operational challenges.“The venue needs capital injection to ensure the smooth running of business. Most artistes agreed that they did not have money to contribute but were willing to perform for free,” said a spokesperson.
Dubbed “Indiegogo Concert”, musicians billed to perform are Victor Kunonga, Alexio Kawara, Tariro NeGitare, Afrika Revenge among others.
Kunonga said he felt obliged to perform at the event since he was a regular act at the venue.
“The Book Café has done a lot for the artistes and as our first show for the year we just decided to start by appreciating those who have worked tirelessly in grooming Zimbabwean artistes,” he said.
“We are doing this concert for a worthy cause. We appreciate the management at the Book Café for giving us the platform to showcase our talents.
‘‘Personally, I developed my skill at the Book Café and I have worked with them since way back so we are just encouraging people to come in their numbers to support the initiative,” Alexio said.
The venue is well known for hosting many artistes in the likes of Prince Musarurwa, Pah Chihera, Tendai Madzviti, Were, Chikwata 263 and Tsvete among others.
The coming concert is bound to go a long way in restoring Book Cafe.
