MUSICIANS and live bands in the capital have found a new home in Highfield.

Located at Gazaland Shopping Centre, Major Island Gardens has become one of the popular spots for live bands this winter, since curfew was lifted.

This Saturday, mbira princess Amadhuve Sasha and The Madhuwe Legacy Band are billed to perform at the venue.

Speaking to H-Metro, Major Island Gardens boss, Blessing Chirowodza, said:

“Since the curfew was lifted, we have opened the gardens to live shows.

“Our bid is to promote local live bands at the same time becoming one of the best live band spots in the capital.

“There has been a gradual growth in attendances since we opened and it is getting better with each show.

“This Saturday we will be hosting Amadhuwe Sasha for a mbira experience and we are looking forward to a great show.

“Our calendar has a variety of acts and so far we have had some rhumba, Afro jazz and now mbira.

“We also have deejays entertaining throughout the entire weekend,” he said.
