ZIFA Manicaland Division Two outfit, Zimunya FC received a timely boost ahead of the start of the league season when they received a complete set of uniforms, two sets of training bibs and a match ball from a well-wisher.

Speaking through an emissary, Vimbikai Tiriri, the well-wisher, Takunda Jera, who traces his roots from the township and is now based in Harare, pledged to continue supporting the club in different ways.

He said: “We are excited about the formation of the club and we will support it in different ways so that youths in Zimunya have something to occupy themselves.

“We also hope that we will have more stakeholders coming in to show support for this club.

We have talented players who do not have the platform to showcase their talents and initiatives like this one cover that gap.”

Zimunya FC secretary, Nyuro Sithole, a former football player who turned out for the now defunct Council Stars in Chipinge during his hey days, commended Jera for his support to the newly formed club.

“We used to have a football club in Zimunya, but it crumbled due to financial challenges and now we have come together to start afresh. We hope we will be able to compete favourably in the Manicaland Division Two League.

“We really want to thank Takunda Jera for his support. This will go a long way in motivating both players and officials given that we know have the backing of our community.

“As a club, we hope we will have more individuals and corporates coming in to support football talent in Zimunya. We surely need to have these initiatives in order to get our youths out of drug abuse and alcoholism. Therefore, socially, the club is of great value to the community apart from the entertainment we get from watching their league matches,” said Sithole.
